Full-mouth reconstruction

Full-Arch Implants, a Permanent Denture Alternative

A full arch of teeth supported by implants can stay firmly in place when you eat, speak and laugh.

What it is

A full set of teeth, held by implants.

If you have lost most or all of your teeth, full-arch implants can replace them. A single implant replaces one tooth. Full-arch implants use a series of implants, usually four to six or more, to hold a full set of teeth. We can replace the upper arch, the lower arch, or both.

The implants are anchored in your jawbone, so the new teeth feel stable and natural in a way a traditional denture cannot. Depending on your needs and your plan, the teeth can be fixed in place or removable.

A full arch can rest on four implants. All-on-X uses more implants when your bone or bite calls for extra support, and X-on-X describes the same idea applied to both arches. Dr. Kwon decides the number from your imaging and exam, and plans the full sequence with you before treatment begins.

Is it right for you?

Full-arch implants may suit you if you have lost most or all of your teeth, your mouth is relatively healthy, and you have enough jawbone, or can have it rebuilt with a graft. Only an exam can tell.

Versus dentures

Why choose implants over dentures.

If you already wear a denture, an implant-supported option may be worth asking about. See our other options for dentures too.

The process

From consultation to your new teeth.

  1. Consultation and imaging

A comprehensive exam and 3D scans show your bone and decide the plan, including how many implants you need.

  2. Preparation

Remaining teeth that cannot be saved are removed first. Some patients also need bone grafting or ridge smoothing to prepare.

  3. Implant placement

Your mouth is cleaned and numbed so you stay comfortable. The implants are placed one by one, and you receive temporary teeth to wear while you heal.

  4. Healing and fittings

Over the next three to six months, you return for check-ups, measurements and impressions while your permanent teeth are made.

    About 3 to 6 months
  5. Your permanent teeth

Once you have healed and your new teeth are ready, they are fitted and your bite is checked.

Common questions

Full-arch questions.

Are full-arch implants fixed or removable?

Both designs exist. A fixed bridge stays in place and is cleaned like natural teeth, while a removable implant-supported denture snaps onto the implants. Your plan will explain which suits your goals and your bone.

Will I be without teeth during treatment?

No. You receive a temporary set of teeth after your implants are placed and wear them while your permanent teeth are made.

Is sedation used?

Your mouth is fully numbed for treatment. Our Kent office offers nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help you relax. It is the only type of sedation we offer, and your comfort options are discussed at your consultation.

How long does it take?

Healing takes about three to six months before your permanent teeth are fitted, so plan on a process of several months.

What if I have lost a lot of bone?

Bone grafting can sometimes rebuild the support needed for implants. Imaging tells us what is possible for your case.
