Dental implants
What to expect at an implant consultation
A consultation is a conversation first. You share your goals, we examine your mouth, and you leave with a clear plan and an honest estimate.

It starts with a conversation
Before anyone looks at an X-ray, Dr. Kwon wants to hear from you. What is bothering you? Is a tooth missing, loose or failing? What would you like to be able to do again, whether that is eating comfortably, smiling in photos or simply not thinking about your teeth?
Your answers shape everything that follows. There is no pressure to decide anything at this visit.
The exam of teeth, gums and bone
Next comes a careful exam. Dr. Kwon looks at your teeth, your gums and the way your bite comes together. Healthy gums matter for implants, so any gum problems are noted early. He also reviews your medical history and your medications, because some health conditions and medicines affect healing.
Imaging, so nothing is guesswork
Implants sit in the jawbone, so the plan depends on seeing what is underneath. We take the imaging needed to check the amount and quality of your bone and the position of nearby structures. This is what lets Dr. Kwon tell you plainly whether an implant is a good fit for you. You can read more about his training and approach on the meet the doctor page.
Every option, including the simplest
A good consultation is not a sales pitch. You will hear about every reasonable option for your situation, including the simplest one. Sometimes that is an implant. Sometimes it is a bridge, a partial denture, or leaving things alone while you think. Dr. Kwon explains what each choice involves, what it is likely to cost and what it means for the teeth around it.

A written plan and cost estimate
If you decide to move forward, you receive a written plan. It lists each procedure, why it is needed and the order it happens in. It also includes an estimate that separates what insurance is expected to pay from what you would pay. Our team checks your benefits first, and you can read how that works on our insurance and financing page.
Questions worth asking
Bring a list. Here are a few good ones:
- What are all of my options, and which one do you recommend for me?
- What does the full sequence of treatment look like, from start to finish?
- Will I have a temporary tooth while I heal?
- What is included in the estimate, and what could change it?
- What care will the implant need once it is finished?
What to bring
- Your dental insurance card and a photo ID
- A list of your medications and any health conditions
- Recent dental X-rays or records, if you have them
If you cannot find your records, bring the name of your previous dentist.
